Gummy Label Math: Mg Per Piece vs. Per Pack, and the COA

The big number on the front of a gummy package is almost always the total for the whole bag. The number that describes one gummy lives on the back panel, in smaller print. Confusing those two is the single most common label mistake we see — and it cuts both ways, making products look both stronger and weaker than they are.

The three numbers that matter

Every honest gummy label gives you enough to compute three things: milligrams per piece, pieces per package, and total milligrams. Front-of-pack marketing leads with the total because it's the biggest number. Flip to the supplement-style panel on the back for the per-piece figure — that's the one that describes what you're actually holding when you open the bag.

Two products at the same shelf price can differ enormously per piece. A bag at 25 mg per gummy and a same-priced bag at 10 mg per gummy are not the same product at the same price, whatever the front panels imply. Divide before you compare.

Matching the label to the COA

The lab report for an edible batch states potency per serving and per package — and those figures should agree with the label within normal lab variance. A label claiming numbers its own COA doesn't support is exactly the mismatch our COA guide teaches you to catch, and it matters more with edibles than any other format because the package is making a per-piece promise.
