Epic Universe planted a whole new resort district south of the original Universal parks, roughly bounded by Kirkman Road's southern extension, Universal Boulevard and Sand Lake Road. If you're staying at one of the new hotels there, the geography around you works differently than the guidebooks describing 'Universal Orlando' assume.

The practical difference: you're actually closer to Sand Lake Road and the I-Drive attractions than guests at the original resort — and further from CityWalk than you might expect.

How the new district connects

Kirkman Road's extension is the spine — it runs from the original Universal resort area down past Epic Universe toward Sand Lake Road. Universal Boulevard borders the district on the east and also carries you north to the old resort or south toward the convention center. Sand Lake Road forms the southern edge, which puts Restaurant Row's dining strip and our shop a short drive west of the park's gates.

Getting to the original parks and CityWalk means a shuttle or a drive up Kirkman — it's not a walk. Budget for that if your trip splits days between the old parks and the new one.

Essentials near the new hotels

The district itself is still mostly park and hotel property, so everyday errands — snacks, sundries, anything you forgot — push you to the edges: the Sand Lake Road strip to the south or the I-Drive corridor to the east. That's not a complaint; it's a quick-errand kind of problem, not a plan-your-day one.
